Lieva Starker has recorded her debut EP, Weerspieëlings (Reflections). It is an album of solo violin music by South African composers, curated around ideas of memory, reflection and reiteration.
The EP features existing works by Kevin Volans, Clare Loveday and Hendrik Hofmeyr. Lieva has also commissioned two new works for the album by Pierre-Henri Wicomb and Lise Morrison.

This is a very special project for Lieva. Three years ago, she left her home in Cape Town to pursue her studies at Birmingham Conservatoire. It was a bold move that has paid off through the expert training and world-class opportunities she has been afforded. But it was also a difficult move, during which a longing for home and reflections and memories have been constant companions. Weerspieëlings ties together many of these feelings: feelings of celebration, but also of longing and the presence, and distortion, of memory.
The EP was recorded and mastered by Luke Morrish-Thomas at Flood Studio, Birmingham. The album design and cover art was done by Nena Maree.
